
Cristina Vrinceanu is a Research Fellow in the Rights Lab, University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. Her background is in Earth Observation and Geospatial Data Science. Currently, her work focuses on the use of Earth Observation and geodata in geospatial workflows and GeoAI with a focus on detecting and forecasting the presence of modern slavery in war and conflict.
For the past four years, Cristina has worked on uncovering worldwide patterns associated with modern slavery with the help of geospatial technologies and satellite data. Previously, she has taken roles in private consultancy and as a young engineer for Earth Observation with the European Space Agency. Before that, she worked as a Geospatial specialist in Romania, helping shape and implement geospatial solutions for governmental infrastructure.
Cristina holds a BA degree in Geography and Urban Planning and MSc in Geographic Information Systems and Geoscience from the University of Bucharest. She has recently completed a PhD in Engineering Surveying and Space Geodesy at the University of Nottingham with a thesis investigating the prevalence of oil pollution in the Black Sea using Synthetic Aperture Radar.
