Date: Monday, June 29 / Tuesday, June 30 / Saturday, July 4
Time: 18:00 - 20:00
Experience the rich history of Timisoara
On Monday (June 29), Tuesday (June 30), and Saturday (July 4) evenings it is possible to take a 1.5-2 hour tour with a guide through the city center of Timisoara to discover some of the town’s history and its hidden gems.
We will embark on a journey through space, but especially through time, taking us from the 1300s all the way to the anti-communist Revolution of 1989. We will discover why Timisoara was, for a short period, the capital of the Hungarian Kingdom and how, for more than a century and a half, it served as the capital of an Ottoman province.
We will learn about the radical transformations it underwent with the establishment of Austrian administration in the 1700s, about its spectacular development at the beginning of the 1900s, and about life during the communist regime after the Second World War.
Finally, we will see how the spark of the 1989 anti-communist Revolution was ignited in Timisoara, an event that led to the fall of Ceausescu’s dictatorship in Romania.
The meeting point is in front of the Orthodox Cathedral (Catedrala mitropolitana Sfintii Trei Ierarhi) in the city center at 18:00: Google Maps
