Stefan holds a PhD in coastal geomorphology (2005), with a research focus on the analysis of Romania’s cliffed coasts through the integration of historical maps, satellite imagery, and archival photography within geospatial databases.
He is a faculty member at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Geography, where he teaches Oceanography, Geography of the Black Sea, GIS, and Historical Cartography.
Since 1996, he has been conducting extensive research on the Danube Delta at the university’s Marine and Fluvial Research Station from Sf. Gheorghe. His expertise lies in applying GIS techniques to analyze deltaic shoreline evolution.
Additionally, he is a co-founder of geo-spatial.org, an initiative promoting open access to geospatial data.
