GAUSS is a Romanian leader in geodesy, topography, cadastre, and geographic information systems, headquartered in Timisoara - the host city of FOSS4G Europe 2026. Founded in 1992 and operating for over three decades with a team of more than 200 specialists, GAUSS has been at the forefront of geospatial innovation in Romania, pioneering the use of satellite imagery for land monitoring and developing one of the country’s first remote sensing-based agricultural subsidy control systems.
Open-source geospatial technology is not a preference at GAUSS - it is the foundation of how we work. Our daily operations are built on the OSGeo stack: QGIS drives our desktop workflows, GDAL/OGR and PROJ power our data processing pipelines, PostGIS underpins our spatial databases, GeoServer serves our map layers, and OpenLayers and Leaflet bring our web applications to life. GRASS GIS supports our advanced terrain and environmental analysis. These are not peripheral tools - they are the engine behind our production systems.
This commitment extends to the products we build for our clients. Our internal WebGIS platform and our satellite-based agricultural monitoring system - used in support of Romania’s APIA subsidy compliance programs - are built entirely on open-source foundations, delivering scalable, standards-compliant geospatial services to public institutions and private operators alike.
Beyond our own walls, GAUSS actively contributes to the OSGeo community, provides QGIS training to clients and partners, and has participated in previous FOSS4G events. Sponsoring FOSS4G Europe 2026 is a natural extension of this commitment - and a privilege, as the conference comes to our hometown of Timisoara.
